There are two types of chemical used in this procedure, depending upon the type of skin problems that you have. Your Surgeon or

Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of your facial skin by removing the damaged outer layers. It can be useful if you have fine wrinkles, facial blemishes and/or uneven skin pigmentation, such as that caused by sun exposure.
AHA’s are found in plants and foods such as citrus fruits, apples, grapes, sugar cane and sour milk.
This treatment is considered a gentle peel, so a series of peels may be needed. AHA peels can improve the texture of sun-damaged skin, it can help smooth rough and dry skin and can help with certain types of acne. It can also be mixed with bleaching agent to correct pigmentation problems and be used as TCA pre-treatment.
TCA is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling.
TCA peels can improve fine surface wrinkles by smoothing them out. Removes superficial blemishes, corrects pigmentation problems.Can be used on neck or other body areas May require pre-treatment with Retin-A or AHA creams treatment takes only 10-15 minutes. Preferred for darker-skinned patients Peel depth can be adjusted and repeat treatment may be needed to maintain results.
Sunblock must be used for several months.
The area is cleansed thoroughly to remove any surface oils after which the chemical peel is then carefully applied.
Within minutes you will experience a warm sensation, this lasts for a few minutes and is quickly relieved with cold compresses.
At this point you can normally go home.
By day 3 and 4 your skin will start to feel tight and will start to shed.
Within 5 – 7 days you will see smoother pinker skin beginning to emerge.
Very rarely, you may experience some swelling, especially around the eyes for the first two days, but this will subside quickly.
The amount of improvement you will see will depend on the initial condition of your skin. It is estimated that the maximum improvement achievable from this treatment is 50-85% most people consider their results quite dramatic.
